CNN to Broadcast "Planet in Peril" Documentary on October 23 and 24

On October 23, 2007 at 9:00 PM EST, CNN will broadcast the first of a two-part documentary entitled "Planet in Peril" that will examine climate change, vanishing habitats, disappearing species, and human population growth.  The reporters for this program are Anderson Cooper, Jeff Corwin (Animal Planet), and Dr. Sanjay Gupta.  Part 2 of Planet in Peril will air on October 24, 2007 at 9:00 PM EST.  The Planet in Peril section of the CNN website contains information on this program and additional resources, such as materials for educators and tips for taking action on environmental issues.

2007 Solar Decathalon previewed by CNET News.com

In the article "Energy geeks compete for coolest solar home" CNET News.com reports on the upcoming 2007 Solar Decathalon, which will take place from October 12 - 20 in Washington, D.C.

The Solar Decathlon is a competition in which 20 teams of college and university students compete to design, build, and operate the most attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar-powered house. The Solar Decathlon is also an event to which the public is invited to observe the combination of solar energy, energy efficiency, and the best in home design.

The primary sponsor of the Solar Decathlon is the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) sponsors and manages the event.  Other sponsors are listed here.

Previous Solar Decathlons were held in 2002 and 2005, each attracing more than 100,000 visitors.  The 2005 final results are listed here; first place was won by the team from the University of Colorado - Denver and Boulder.
